WI Wild Lakes With John Bates

Spend an evening with naturalist and author John Bates! Join us at 6pm for a free presentation.
Mr. Bates talk about his book, "Wisconsin's Wild Lakes" and the beautiful places that inspired them.

Wisconsin’s Last Undeveloped Wild Lakes

Undeveloped wild lakes are a relative rarity on Wisconsin’s landscape despite our wealth of lakes in the state. Visiting a wild lake offers a peace that’s often hard to find, as well as an insight into our native plant and animal communities that live in, on and around our lakes. So, where are these lakes? What are their ecological values? And why should we care to protect them?

John Bates is the author of ten books on the Northwoods and Upper Midwest, and a contributor to eight others. John has been featured on Wisconsin Public Television, PBS news "Brief But Spectacular", and has been a frequent guest on Wisconsin Public Radio. He has worked as a state forest naturalist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and owns Trails North, a naturalist guide service. He also conducts outdoor classes  for the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, the North Lakeland Discovery Center, and many others, and gives presentations to numerous organizations. For thirty-four years he has written a biweekly column, "A Northwoods Almanac," for the Lakeland Times in Minocqua, Wisconsin.
