Friday June 28th, 8am: Guided Birding/Nature Hike (Adults & Teens only)
Take a tour of the White River Marsh Wildlife Area with Tom Schultz and Rick Vant Hoff, naturalists who’ll wow you with their knowledge!
This event is limited 15 people- teens and adults only. YOU MUST RSVP by June 21- please call 920-295-6777. There is a suggested donation of $5 to offset library costs.
Attendees will meet at the library just before 8am and organize a carpool / car caravan, then drive to the White River Marsh. The wildlife area is about 6 miles north of the city of Princeton on County Highway D. Hiking boots, bug spray, and binoculars are highly recommended.
Tom Schultz is a well-known bird artist and has been working full-time as an illustrator for over 40 years. He leads the Green Lake Bird & Nature Club and founded the Green Lake Bird Fest, held annually at Town Square. His detailed illustrations have been published in a variety of books and bird field guides, including National Geographic’s Field Guide to North America’s Birds. He has also done work for the Smithsonian Institution, the Houghton Mifflin Company and various other publications.
Rick Vant Hoff is a local birder, photographer, and volunteer at Marsh Haven Nature Center and the Department of Natural Resources. He has helped organize the Horicon Bird Festival and the annual Whooping Crane Festival for many years.
Aldo Leopold had investigated the White River Marsh in the 1940s and and recommended federal or state purchase of the marsh for conservation purposes. Today, this 12,000-acre property is home to rare Whooping Cranes, Karner Blue butterflies, and other amazing species.
