The Mystery Book Club Will Meet on Wednesday, January 5th
We're reading Blue Monday by Nicci French.
This is the first book in a new series of psychological thrillers introducing an unforgettable London psychotherapist named Frieda Klein. She believes that the world is a messy, uncontrollable place, but what we can control is what is inside our heads. The abduction of five-year-old Matthew Farraday provokes a national outcry and a desperate police hunt. And when his face is splashed over the newspapers, Frieda cannot ignore the coincidence: one of her patients has been having dreams in which he has a hunger for a child. A red-haired child he can describe in perfect detail, a child the spitting image of Matthew. She finds herself in the center of the investigation, serving as the reluctant sidekick of the chief inspector.
February's book will be Dodgers by Bill Beverly
Dodgers is a dark, unforgettable coming-of-age journey that recalls the very best of Richard Price, Denis Johnson, and J.D. Salinger.
It is the story of a young LA gang member named East, who is sent by his uncle along with some other teenage boys - including East's hothead younger brother - to kill a key witness hiding out in Wisconsin. The journey takes East out of a city he's never left and into an America that is entirely alien to him, ultimately forcing him to grapple with his place in the world and decide what kind of man he wants to become.
This group is led by Vicki Duhr. The Mystery Book Club meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 9:30 am.
